2010 TOP KIDS
EMMA and JONAH cleaned up!
After the fishies, weights, scores and all the other cheating adult stuff was done, NO WAY could the club deny it.. These 2 are the top fishos for the MBC ( weight of catch V height ratio - its a new NZRFC catagory I just invented)...
All power to these 2 youngsters
Ladies first, Heres Emma Stewart

And here's Johna Phillpot, his gongs just about outnumber Dads...

Just look at this - and there's 2 mums out there that have to keep all this dusted !

Our annual kids fishing competition was held on April 17th (after a little confusion with the day and dates - blame daylight saving !) and was again a great success. We had 50 kids taking part with around 66 fish being weighed in. There were heaps of Snapper caught, with several going over the 1kg mark. Kahawai were in abundance, a few Trevally, a Gurnard and an attempt to weigh in a couple of sting rays...Total weight of fish that passed over the scales was 83.08 Kg, which shows how good the fishing was for just those 4 hours.
Congratulations to Emma Stewart who caught a 5.18kg Snapper (that really showed up Dad (Rick)) and the skipper (Chris), and took out this years Kids trophy. Big thanks to the organizers of this years competition. This year Rods and reels were awarded to the top fishers taking part, and every participant came away with a gift and a certificate.. Thanks also go to the 18 skippers who made their boats available for the kids and to the sponsors who supplied bait, prizes, food etc etc for the event.
1st Place with Heaviest fish, Emma Stewart, aged 6. with a 5.18Kg snapper - Emma also takes the trophy.
Heaviest Gurnard - 0.70 Kg, Kalani Louie, aged 6
Heaviest Trevally - 1.32 Kg, Samuel Pascoe, aged 12
Heaviest Kahawai - 2.06 Kg, Cornelius Hawton, aged 4
Average Weight - 1.26 Kg, Zane Leggett, aged 7.
Congratulations to the winners, and to all the contestants, we hope you all enjoyed your day out on the water.

Last year we hosted the Carters Take a Kid Fishing which involved 800 kids fishing off the old bridge. We were contacted by Graeme Sinclair to see if some of our boats were available to take the kids out for a spin. Our boats managed to get 250 plus kids out on the the harbour, Some of them having never been out on a boat before.
A special thanks to Dino, Ian, Paul, Garyand Trevor for volunteering their time and boats to give these kids a great time.
Graeme and his wife Sandy travel all over NZ doing this great community minded activity for kids, They mentioned that our club is the only one to have done this so far. Great exposure for the club and great for the kids.
